Alexandra Aerodome – ALR Alexandra
Alexandra Aerodome or Alexandra AiRport is only 3.7 km from the town of Alexandra, New Zealand. The airport with code ALR is the town’s only airport. Major airline carriers like Mount Cook Airlines and SPANZ the main users of the facility. The operation started in the ’80s. The airport is also the home of the Central Otago Flying Club. Currently, the airport is quiet because there are no passenger flights that are scheduled. The nearest facility for international flights is Queenstown International Airport.
Best Time to Visit
South Pacific Airlines of New Zealand first operate Douglas DC-3 for 7 years starting in 1960. Mount Cook Airlines have also commercial flights connection to Queenstown from 1969 to 1991. Pacifica Air also flew into the town during the late ’80s. Mainland Aviation College also uses the facility as a training ground but it stopped its operation in 2009. The flying club is the sole user of the airport today. The airport is also serving the cities of Sunshine Bay and Queenstown.
