Lake Macquarie Airport is a private airfield located in Newcastle, New South Wales, Australia. It was formerly known as Belmont Airport and is owned by Private Consortium. It serves the city of Lake Macquarie and offers a variety of services not limited to flights.
Best Time to Visit
BEO-Lake Macquarie Airport was used mostly in history as a base for Aeropelican Air Services, offering commuter flights to Sydney and back. This service was no longer available since 2006. The city’s council has been interested in maintaining the site for future aviation uses but as the airport is privately owned, the council has very limited control over the site. Under the Civil Aviation Safety Authority, the airport is classified under Aircraft Landing Area due to land constraints. As the airport is not registered as an airport, it hinders possibilities for commercial passenger flights in the future. For now, the service available in the airport include helicopter flights, charter flights, microlight flights, gyroplane flights, skydiving, and Matt Hall Aerobatic. Tighes Hill, Wickham, and New Lambton are just some of the nearby areas that are able to benefit from the ongoing services available in Belmont Airport.

There are no shortage of hotels to choose from in Newcastle and even more so when it comes to looking for hotels located near the airport. The Premier Hotel is a casual hotel located in a bustling street. It offers regular live entertainment. Rooms and beds are on the smaller side but very functional and equipped with the basic amenities. Located close to Belmont Airport is the Belmont Palms Motel. This is a laid-back motel with simple rooms and an outdoor pool. For rooms with a view, the Mercure Charleston offers wonder ocean views from its modern rooms. This is an elegant hotel located within a 30-minute or so drive to the airport. The Lake Macquarie Motor Inn is less than 1 mile away. The Aquarius Motel Belmont is alittllle more than a mile and has an outdoor pool.
