A city rich in Civil War history, Boonville, MO is a destination located in Cooper County. Home to the Battle of Boonville, the city had its name as a tribute to Daniel Boone, father of Nathan and Daniel Morgan, and the brothers responsible for founding and operating a salt lick, Boone’s Lick, in the area now known as Howard County. The city is located near the Columbia Regional Airport and the Marshall Memorial Municipal Airport. By the 1820s, the region became a starting point for River Trade and the Santa Fe Trail. By 1839, Boonville became officially incorporated.
