Halmstad City Airport – HAD
The Halmstad City Airport, or simply Halmstad Airport, is a public-use airfield operated by the HalmstadFlygplats AB. It is situated one nautical mile from the northwestern side of the city of Halmstad, Sweden, in the municipality of Halmstad. The airport, whose IATA code is HAD, was used as an airforce base in 1944 to 1961. Until today, Halmstad Airport still handles about 800 to 1300 military aircraft movements annually.
Best Time to Visit
Currently, you can fly to Halmstad City Airport from Stockholm Bromma Airport, which is offered by BRA Braathens Regional Airlines. This is the only regularly scheduled flight to and from HAD. However, two other airlines, Air Europa and Jet Time, provide seasonal charter flights as well. As of 2018, the airfield handled over 134,000 passengers, 14,000 of which are international travelers. You can easily reach the towns of Svanshall, Selleberga, and Tinkarp from HAD.
What to Do & Area Attractions
There are dozens of hotel choices available outside of Halmstad City Airport, some of which are the Halmstad Hotell & Vandrarhem Kaptenshamn and the Scandic Hallandia, which are both in the heart of Halmstad. These hotels provide a good city view to the guests and are within a short walk to the Nissan River. If you are in for a more scenic view, you can drive to First Camp Tylösand, which is just 12 minutes away from Halmstad City Airport. Unlike the other two, this hotel is in front of the beach and is equipped with a fancy restaurant, saltwater pools, and saunas.
