Kalamata International Airport – KLX
The Kalamata International Airport, also known as the Captain Vassilis Constantakopoulos Airport, is one of the 15 international airports in Greece. The airport locatedbetween Kalamata and Messina and serves the city of Kalamata, Greece and the nearby towns. The Kalamata International Airport, whose airport code is KLX, dates back to 1959 when it was officially opened. As tourists highest frequency in the area is during summer, the airport only serves summer. In 1986 charter flights began serving the airport and in 1991 a new runway was installed. Lack of transport is the main problem of the airport. You can only access the airport through bus, car, or taxi.

KLX-Kalamata International Airport is a public and military airport. It is owned by Greek State and operated by Hellenistic Civil Aviation Authority. It is the main base of Aegean Airline. It has two runways with asphalt as their surfaces which the other one is converted as taxiway. Located in the west of the runway is the Hellenic Air Force that uses the same runway. In 2012 the airport was renamed after a Greek Captain, Shipowner and Enterpreneur Vasilis C. Constantakopoulos. As of 2018, the airport accommodates 278,961 passengers and 2,601 aircraft movements. You can easily drive to the tourists' sites of Vasilitsion and Velanidhia from the airport.
