Ostuni: The White City of Salento
Known for its whitewashed, old-town vibe, Ostuni, Italy is a city in the Apulia region in Brindisi province within Italy. The community is open to its diverse races, with British and German community present within the city. It is also famous for being one of the major producers of high-quality olive oil and wine. The name came from the Greeks, its name being “Astu Neon” meaning “new town”, coinciding with the fact that they renamed it after being rebuilt ending a previous war. The Brindisi Airport is the closest gateway to get to explore the beauty of the city of Ostuni in Italy.
Best Time to Visit
A medieval tournament is re-enacted and is used as a form of leisure and competition during the Saracin’s Ride which has been dated back since the year 1583. 5 riders or knights (each representing a village) compete with each other in gathering the most rings, while their ankles are tied. Ferragosto is another event held during the month of August, which is a pyrotechnic show. The Eggplant Festival and Feasts Fresh Fish Festival are both celebrated during this month as well.

The festivities around Ostuni, Italy may not be enough to make the tourists’ stay worth while, so attractions within the city await their arrival. The Dune Costiere Regional Natural Park has beachfront dunes, wetlands, parkland, wildlife and century-old olive groves. In L'Ulivo Che Canta, there’s a collection of woodcrafts showcased ranging from kitchenwares to house furniture, accessories and other art-worthy collections. The Ostuni Cathedral can also be found within the city and it shows its dedication to the Assumption of the Virgin Mary. Both the 5-star The Summit Relais & Chateaux and the Hotel Monte Sarago are near this attraction.
