Port of Spain: A Carribean Pride
Port of Spain, Trinidad and Tobago is the capital city and the second biggest city in the country. It was incorporated as a town in 1853 and as a city in 1914. The biggest container port in the island is located in the city. As such, Port of Spain is one of the many shipping hubs in the entire Carribean region. The largest and most successful stock exchange in the region, Trinidad and Tobago Stock Exchange (TTSE), is also situated in the city. One of the best ways to get to the city is through the nearest airport, Piarco International Airport (POS).
Best Time to Visit
The months of February through April have the ideal weather in Port of Spain. The months with the highest influx of tourists are usually January, February, and May. Meanwhile, October is when people are least likely to visit the city. One of the most exciting events in the city is Trinidad and Tobago Carnival, which is held on the Monday and Tuesday before Ash Wednesday. Several cultural activities occur during the festivity. Locals wear colorful costumes and hold lush celebrations.
What to Do & Area Attractions
When in Port of Spain, tourists usually visit Holy Trinity Cathedral. It is an Anglican cathedral that has been around since 1816. In fact, it is one of the oldest surviving infrastructures in the city. On the other hand, Emperor Valley Zoo, the largest zoo in the country, features over 2,300 animals and over 200 species. Some of the greatest Port of Spain hotels, include the Hyatt Regency Trinidad, which has a spa and a rooftop infinity; and the posh Radisson Hotel Trinidad that features a hotel restaurant, a garden and laundry facilities.
