Serrekunda, Gambia is also known as the Serrekunda market town. It is one of the largest towns in the country. Serrekunda means “home of the Sayer family,” which was named after its founder Sayerr Jobe, who is part of Wolof Royal family from Senegal. The population of the town is less than 500,000. It is also within close proximity from Banjul, which is the capital of the province where Serrekunda is located. To access the town, one has to enter the Banjul International Airport (BJL). There are 9 villages that merged in order to create this urban city.

The most pleasant time to visit Serrekunda starts from months of October and ends in April. Unfortunately, these months are proven to be busy times because of the influx of tourists who want to take advantage of the weather. The climate is said to be cooler and there are few mosquitos in the area.
