Hewanorra International Airport – UVF La Tourney
Hewanorra International Airport, La Tourney, Saint Lucia (UVF) is a public airport owned by the government and operated by Saint Lucia Air and Seaports Authority (SLASPA). The country only has two (2) airports and this one happens to be the larger one. It is a Fire Category 9 airport that can handle 500,000 passengers annually. Its name is an Amerindian word that means, “land of the iguana”.
Best Time to Visit
Originally known as Beane Army Field, Hewanorra International Airport was used as a military airfield during World War II (WWII) by the US Army Air Forces’ Sixth Air Force. After the war, it was refurbished and converted into a public airport. It has one (1) runway measuring 9,003-foot long and a helipad measuring 60-foot long. Currently, it has seven (7) parking positions. Four (4) of these are for wide-body aircrafts and the rest are for medium-sized aircrafts. Current expansion plans aim to add six (6) new parking positions. There are also plans to extend the runway length and width to accommodate an Airbus A380. Air Canada Rouge, American Airlines, British Airways, Delta Air Lines, JetBlue, Mustique Airways, Sunwing Airlines, SVG Air, TUI Airways, United Airlines, Virgin Atlantic, and WestJet currently have operations at the airport.
