Valencia, Spain is a municipality within the autonomous community of Valencia. It also serves as the capital of the said community. The municipality ranks in third as the largest city in the country, following Madrid and Barcelona. Valencia was initially a Roman colony headed by consul DecimusJunius Brutus Callaicus and was named ValentiaEdetanorum. Then in 1812, the city served as Spain’s capital when Joseph Bonaparte transferred the Court in the area. Today, it is home to more than a million residents. However, expect a high number of tourists in the area and relatively more expensive Valencia, Spain hotels. For a cheaper stay in the city, book by December during the slow season.
