West Kootenay Regional Airport – YCG
Serving the city of Castlegar, British Columbia and the nearby Nelson, BC is the dainty West Kootenay Regional Airport. It was officially opened last 1950 but the terminal was not built until 21 years after its opening. It is also fondly referred to as Castlegar Airport, after its very own city name. NAV Canada classified YCG-West Kootenay Regional Airport as an airport of entry.
Best Time to Visit
The West Kootenay Regional Airport (YCG) has one passenger terminal and a single, short runway. The terminal has undergone expansion during 1978. On the other hand, its runway area is surrounded by mountainous terrain thus, making it difficult for larger aircrafts to land. YCG is also known to operate during the daytime only because of this problem. However, last 2009, night time visual beacons were installed but can only support emergency/medical flights as of the moment. Air Canada Express is the sole airline that handles flights to and from Vancouver and Calgary. You can visit the cities of Nelson and Salmo when you arrive at the YCG.
