Bang Saphan: A Unique Thai Summer Getaway
Bang Saphan, Thailand was first named “Mueang Kamnoed Napphakhun” in the Thonburi Kingdom. It was a fourth class city, as declared by King Nangklao of Rattanakosin. Later on, King Chulalongkorn downgraded it into a district. In 1915, “Mueang” was dropped from its name by Long Vajiravudh. Then, he changed it completely into “Bang Saphan”. The nearest airports are Chumphon Airport (CJM) and Hua Hin Airport (HHQ).
Best Time to Visit
It is ideal to visit Bang Saphan, TH anytime between January and March, given the perfect weather. Tourists usually flock in January, August, and October. They are least likely to visit in May, which means relatively lower plane ticket prices and hotel rates during this month. One event to look forward to is Loi Krathong, which is held on the Thai Lunar Calendar’s full moon of the 12th month or typically November. It is a version of the Hindu festival, “Dipawali”. Lotus-shaped vessels made of banana leaves are decorated with candles and burning incense sticks, and are floated away in a river. The practice is believed to carry away with it the grievances and sins of the people floating the vessels.
