Melchior NDADAYE International Airport is the only international airport of Burundi. It is a major public airport that is located in Bujumbura, Burundi. Its airport code, BJM, stands for the country capital city’s name Bujumbura. The airport, formerly Bujumbura International Airport was opened in 1952. It was just on July 1, 2019 that it was named Melchor NDADAYE International Airport in tribute to Melchior NDADAYE, the first elected President in 1993 in a democratic government of Burundi and assassinated after three months in position.
