Boracay Island, Philippines: A Second Chance At The White Sand
It was controversial for Boracay Island, Philippines, a popular summer destination in Asia to be temporarily shut down to redeem the place for responsible tourism. Apparently, the second chance for this island was all worth the wait given the restoration initiatives for a better and sustainable environment in efforts to keep the long stretch of white sand and the crystal blue water. The butterfly shaped island was reopened for tourists on October 26, 2018 which nonetheless attracted visitors either out of curiosity. For those wanting to visit the island or perhaps, for simply missing it, it is accessible from the Caticlan-Godofredo P. Ramos Airport.
Best Time to Visit
Avoid the summer rush by visiting the place from November to April for a little bit of crowd and a little bit of sun. In January, there is the Ati-Atihan Festival in the island which is a celebration of the native settlers called the Aetas. The festivity is made colorful by costumes and made fun by the street dance performance. The food is abundant and culture is quite celebrated.
