It is located just 2 miles from the city center in the state of Maranhão.The airlines Azul Brazilian Airlines and LATAM Brazil have routes that take them to the airport. Being the second largest city of Maranhão, Imperatriz has been home to air services as far back as the 1930s. The city’s first airport was completed by the time World War II ended, but prone to flooding. The new site of the Imperatriz Airport opened in 1981. The airport sits at 431 feet above mean sea level with an asphalt runway that measures 5,899 feet in length.
