Karpenisi: Mountains, Ski Resorts and Stunning Nature Destinations
Karpenisi, Greece is one of the towns located in the center of the country. It is the current capital of the Evrytania regional unit and close to the valley in the river Karpenisiotis. The town is one of the most popular ski resorts located in the region. Karpenisi is popularly called as the "Switzerland of Greece" due to its resemblance to the country. The town is a young one and was formed in 2011 through the merger of six different municipalities - Prousos, Potamia, Fourna, Ktimenia, Domnista and Karpenisi. Former General of the Greek Army and Prime Minister Georgios Kondylis is from the region.
Best Time to Visit
The snow is deepest and can be most enjoyed during mid-December. It is the best time to ski, but with many Karpenisi, Greece hotels quite crowded and full of tourists. The AV Choral Events is an annual celebration that started in 1988 and is still one of the most prestigious events in the region during the month of July.
