Larvik: Norway’s Natural Wonder
Larvik, Norway is a town in Vestfold og Telemark. It became a market town in 1671 and a municipality in 1838. It is home to Farriskilden, the only natural mineral water spring in the country.
Best Time to Visit
The perfect time to visit Larvik is during the months of May through September, for the best weather. Peak tourist season is usually during the months of January, May, and July. Tourists are least likely to visit in February. One of the most popular attractions in the area is Stavernfestivalen, which is held every July. It is a 3-day music festival that was introduced in 2001. When it started, it featured Norwegian artists only. Today, it also features international artists.

One of the most well-known attractions in town is Bokeskogen Park, the biggest beech tree forest in the country. Protected by the Norwegian Nature Diversity Act since 1980, it is also the northernmost beech tree forest in the world. It is home to the country’s biggest burial mounds from the Iron Age. Another interesting site to visit in the area is Fritzoehus, the biggest private residence in the country. It was designed for Michael Treschow in the 1860s. Currently, it has 75 rooms and 21 basement rooms. It is situated in Fritzoehus Park, a conservation area. It is dedicated to preserving beech forests and the entire landscape.
