Olonzac: The Capital of Minervois
Olonzac, France is located in the department of Herault in the region of Occitanie. The town is located in the southern part of the country. Olonzac is the capital of the Minervois region which is best known for their good red wines. The simple town of Olonzac is charming with their little set of local coffee shops and and the basic offices. The town does not have a specific landmark to boast of but every corner of the town is a must visit especially if you want to seek good food and aromatic local wine.
Best Time to Visit
The town of Olonzac celebrates every year the Carnival of Limoux in together with many cities in France. It is usually celebrated on weekends of January to Fat Tuesday. The celebration includes bands and pierrots and many parades.
What to Do & Area Attractions
The best thing about Olonzac is that it is laid back town. A good place to visit is the Lac de Jouarres, a lake and canal which is good for fishing and picnics. the town also has the Musée Archéologique du Minervois. A museum for archaeological things from Minerva. There are a lot of nice Olonzac accommodations in the area. For couples, the Le Jardin D’Homps is the best place to stay. It is a romantic B&B near the city center with an outdoor pool to enjoy in with your wine. While a resort-like Port Minervois - Les Hauts du Lac is a good place for all ages. Although, it is located a little further from the center of the city.
