Home of one of the well-known business districts in the Philippines, Pasig is a city that is highly urbanized which is also home for the Roman Catholic Diocese of Pasig, Pasig Cathedral – a famous landmark that was built in 1573, the same year the city was founded. It shares the name of Pasig River, which was a source of water and transport route for Spanish Manila. The Philippines is a Catholic country and has been influenced by its longest conquerors, which were the Spaniards – and because of this, each of the cities has its own “fiesta” or festival for its patron saints. One of which is the Itik- Itik Festival, which is held during February, when St. Martha is celebrated; where a duck species (called itik) is highlighted through different dishes. Araw ng Pasig is the biggest event in the city when the community celebrates the establishment of the parish in 1573 through pageants, street dance competitions, and awarding those who have been an extraordinary citizen in Pasig. It happens during the month of July, from which July 2 is the celebration of the Feast of the Visitation of Our Lady.
