Saint Joseph: Edging Europe’s South
Saint Joseph, Reunion is a commune dubbed as the “Wild South” of the region. It features black sandy beaches with heavenly hikes that’s just perfect for those who want to experience a little bit of nature while still keeping pace with modern amenities. It’s also the site of the Reunion National Park which is a recognized World Heritage Site.
Best Time to Visit
Your visit timing really depends on what you intend to do while in the area. For example, the best weather for swimming is from January to May but if you’re there for the Manapany Festival, the best time is September. If what you’re after is good weather, the best months are from May to November. Hotel rates are usually up during the last five months of the year before starting a slow decline for the rest of the year. Obviously, if you want cheaper airfare and accommodation – the latter part of the year is perfect. Either way, the hiking trails would always be there waiting for you.
What to Do & Area Attractions
Saint Joseph is known for the Grand Galet Falls, which is just a short drive from most of the hotels in the area. There are also at least a dozen hiking trails in the area, some of which lead directly to the Reunion National Park and its breathtaking view. Saint Joseph, Reunion hotels include the La Rose Du Sud and the Villa Zoreol, both of which have a very log-cabin façade that truly puts you in touch with nature.
