Located 9 miles north of the city’s downtown, Scottsdale Airport (SCF) in Scottsdale, Arizona is one of the busiest single-runway facilities in the country with an average of 10,000 passengers using the facilities yearly. The Federal Aviation Authority’s plan for integrated airport systems designated SCF as a reliever airport. The airfield started out as a primary flight training school for aviation cadets during World War II. But since 1966, the airport has been owned and operated by the city.

Scottsdale Airport sits on an area of just 282 acres and has a single asphalt runway. The airport has an approximate average of over220,000 aircraft operations in a year or about 615 per day. There have been plans to make SCF Airport a base for an airline’s operationsbut this did not materialize as the airport's master plan does not currently allow commercial flights due to noise concerns. However, two main Fixed-base operators(FBO) are located on the field. Cities in the Maricopa County like Mesa, Avondale, Chandler, and Tempe can be easily reached from the airport.
