Sedona Airport – SDX Sedona
A small public and non-towered airport in the city of Sedona in Arizona is the Sedona Airport. It is situated atop of a high mesa overlooking a large part of the city and is very close to the Red Rocks of Sedona. The airport is owned by the county of Yavapai and was inaugurated in 1955. Air Sedona was the first airline to operate flights on the airport going to destinations such as Phoenix and Las Vegas until 1995. The last airline to operate at the airport is Scenic Airlines, after it ceased operations in 1997.
Best Time to Visit
Sedona Airport is composed of a single asphalt-paved runway and a concrete helipad measuring 50 feet in length. The Grand Canyon Villageis one of the most visited places close to the SDX Sedona. It is popular because of the Grand Canyon and the village has excellent shopping for camping and hiking gears. The village also holds scenic views overlooking the park. Horseback riding and helicopter tours are also popular in the area.
