Sheridan: Fine Wines and Farmsteads
Situated at the foothill of the Northern Oregon Coast Range, Sheridan, Oregon is a community of farming and lumber production. Like the other cities bearing the same name, it is called after General Philip Sheridan – a US soldier who served during the Civil War. Even though its main industry is that of forestry and agriculture, Sheridan is prone to flooding.
Best Time to Visit
Sheridan, OR, as a charming little farm town, has a Mediterranean climate. The summers are hot and dry meanwhile the winters are cold but seldom wet. The growing season in the city usually runs from April to November, which means during these months, limited amount of rain may be experienced. However, it is said that it is usually dry from July to September so within those months will be the ideal time to explore the city. The Wildwood Music Festival is held annually every last week of July.

If you care for a sip of wine, you can stop by J Wrigley Vineyard and see how wines are made while overlooking the whole place from a patio. You can also visit several plantations in the city such as Oregon’s Wild Harvest Farm – where organic herbs are grown, and the Bloomingdale Farms – which has a stunning view of the Cascade Peaks, a walking trail, and a fishing pond. It is interesting to note that there is also a federal prison in the city classified as medium-level security. There are no Sheridan, OR hotels in the city itself but the nearest accommodations are located in the next city, McMinnville, which is about 20-30 minutes away.
