Sharjah International Airport – SHJ
Sharjah International Airport is an airport located 8 miles outside of Sharjah, United Arab of Emirates. It serves as the hub for several local and international airlines including low-cost airline Air Arabia. As the third largest airfreight hub in the Middle East, it is also the hub for cargo carriers like Lufthansa Cargo and Singapore Airlines Cargo. Sharjah International Airport has one passenger terminal with an area of 1,350,000 square feet. Aside from Sharjah, this airport also serves Ajman and Umm al-Quwain.

The airport occupies a land area of over 3,800 acres. With the airport code of SHJ, this airport sits at an elevation of 116 feet. The current airport was built in 1970, but did not open until 1977. It served as the replacement for RAF Sharjah. The military airport was located closers to the city and was the first airport in the United Arab Emirates. The airport was moved in response to the developments in Sharjah. The old airport and its runway have now been integrated into the city center of Sharjah. Sharjah International Airport was used by the United States Air Force during Operation Desert Storm in 1990 and early 1991.
