Princess Juliana International Airport – SXM Sint Maarten
Located in the Dutch side of the Island of Sint Maarten, the Princess Juliana International Airport is the primary airport of the Caribbean Island. It is named after Queen Juliana who touched down on the area a year before the airport was opened. The airport serves as the gateway to smaller Leeward Islands and serves as the center of activity for Windward Islands Airways. A new plan was developed in 1997, which lead to the opening of the US$100 million worth of international airport in November 2006. In 2015, SMX Sint Maarten served almost 2 million passengers. It is ranked second as the busiest airport in the Caribbean and the most important asset of Sint Marteen.
Best Time to Visit
The SMX Sint Maarten has a single runway, which made it famous for being short, and is only long enough hefty jets to land. The airport’s four-level, modern and spacious fully-air conditioned terminal facilities are designed to have 2.5 million passengers annually. It has 12 boarding gates and has a comfortable departure hall with 21 duty free outlets and some food and beverages outlets. Simpson Bay and Beacon Hill are just some of the cities that are near the Princess Juliana International Airport.
