Syracuse: A Retreat to the Oldest City of the Mediterranean
A city in the eastern coast of Sicily, part of the Mediterranean, Syracuse, Italy is one of the oldest cities in Italy which is home to several Roman and Greek historical sites. Best Time to Visit
As a home and birthplace of the Greek theater, Syracuse celebrates their annual Greek Theater Festival from May to July. During the festival there will be cultural events and performances, the main event is the dramatic presentation of the three classical Greek tragedies and comedies, with ritual performed since 1914. Like its long and rich history, Syracuse has a long list of sites and activities to offer for every visitor. The Archaeological Park of Neapolis is one of the top attractions with its ancient amphitheater built in 470 BC and where most of the plays of Greek geniuses like Sophocles and Aisychylos were first performed.
