Apart from visiting the World Trade Center in Guayaquil, you should also make a stopover at Policentro. This is the first-ever shopping center in the city and was opened back in July 1979 by the former Ecuadorian President Jaime Roldós. Although the mall is not one to boast prominent entertainment and shopping spaces, Policentro still attracts numerous locals and tourists to the area. There is still a wide array of shops in the mall, including clothing, electronics, jewels and accessories, cafes, and Japanese restaurants. Roughly three miles away from the shopping center is the Simon Bolivar Statue. The statue actually represents the meeting of Liberators Jose de San Martin and Simon Bolivar. It took place in the latter part of July 1822, following the independence of Ecuador in May of the same year. During the meeting, General San Martin proposed to create the Great South American Nation constitution that would be based in the city. Around 1 mile from the trade center is the three-star Suites & Apartments by GOYA. This comfy apartment features an airport shuttle, a garden area, and a terrace, as well. If you’re traveling with family, you can check out the Courtyard by Marriott Guayaquil. The four-star hotel is complete with a fitness center and an on-site restaurant. It also sits close to several other attractions in the area.
