Uberaba was founded in 1809 by Antônio Eustáquio da Silva e Oliveira and declared it as a city in 1836. The town’s name was derived from the Tupi word that means “bright water”. Today the town is well known for two things: the home to Brazilian philanthropist and spiritist medium, Chico Xavier, and events involving cattle breeding and genetic improvement.
